Too much exposure to Ultra-Violet Radiation from the Sun can pose
health risks such as skin cancer, cataracts, and premature aging
of the skin.
UV radiation is increased as upper level atmospheric ozone is
decreased. This affects all life on Earth.
UV-B is the part of this radiation that is linked to several types
of skin cancer.
UV-B levels are continuously monitored throughout the day by a
sensor on the roof of the Environmental Education, Science and
Technology Building at the University of North Texas. This data
is available in an easy to read format on the ECOPLEX website,
updated every half-hour.
Risk varies throughout the day. Consult the
chart to determine danger levels when
planning outdoor activities.
